Our Story

Hi, I'm Mitchell. I started mirikk (the brand) in 2024, though I had been developing the concept and prototyping natural oil mixtures for over a year beforehand. See, for as long as I could remember I hated washing my hair. The dry, frizzy aftermath felt terrible. The only thing worse was not washing my hair and having a painful and itchy scalp with oily hair after a few days.

Washing meant living life with a fluffy dome, yet not washing meant flakes and itching. One quick scratch would set off an avalanche revealing the red, barren surface below. I went through "anti-dandruff" shampoo like no tomorrow. No matter the brand, no matter the strength, I couldn't go more than three days without washing my hair.

I had the situation under control, I could keep the itch and flakes at bay but I still hated washing my hair. So I came up with the goal of increasing the number of days I could go without a wash. The TL;DR version - I found the best way to increase the length between washes is to use a natural pre-wash oil. More specifically, a mixture of Argan, Coconut, Sweet Orange and Rosemary in a top secret ratio to prevent a "too oily" result. It also has the added benefit of reducing after-wash frizz and soothing the scalp.

We've now built a brand around this mixture and we continue searching for and developing other natural ways to improve our hair and scalp care routine.
